                    Animal Cruelty and Abandonment

Animal Cruelty

Animal Cruelty is happening all around the world, probably somewhere while you're reading this. Sometimes, animals can get caught in traps, meant for hunting other animals, which we shouldn't do in the first place, and, being caught in the trap, die of hunger, or predators. Dogs used for fighting, some people think that animals fighting to death is fun, are chained, taunted and starved to become aggressive, and those who lose, are often tortured, set on fire, electrocuted, drowned, abandoned, and many other cruel ways. Piglets are separated from their mothers when they are barely even 10 days old. Imagine yourself, with your mother, and then someone comes and takes you away, never to be with your mother again. Would you like that? Well, neither do the pigs, so why should they have to suffer? Chickens can live for over 10 years, but because they are forced to lay eggs all the time, they die around the age of 2. Every year, millions of animals are killed for clothes for us. More than 100 million animals every year suffer and die in cruel chemicals, food and cosmetics tests, biology lessons, and drugs. All of these animals suffer, for our entertainment, but this isn't funny. Each year, about 10,000 bulls die in bull fights. Baby goats are burned alive for gloves. Are gloves really that important, important enough that it doesn't matter for a baby goat to die? Many and most hens raised for eggs in the US are put in such small spaces that they can't even move a wing. Scientists estimate that about 100 species go extinct every day, that's about 1 species every 15 minutes. More than 15 million warm-blooded animals are used for research, every year. Just for fur, animals spend their entire lives cramped in dirty wire cages. That cute elephant you saw at the circus? Most elephants are chained up 23 hours a day since they were babies. A typical slaughterhouse kills almost 1,000 hogs per hour. More than half the fur in US comes from China, where millions of cats and dogs are cruelly killed. 18 red foxed are killed to make 1 fox-fur coat, and 55 minks to make a mink coat. Fur coats are cool- for animals, not humans to wear.

Animal Abandonment

Animal Abandonment is a HUGE problem, worldwide. There are millions of adorable, loving, perfectly adoptable dogs put down every year, because some breeders keep trying to get puppies to make more money. Tons of people buy puppies from pet shops, where the puppies are from puppy farms, where breeding dogs are abused cruelly and tortured, just to have more puppies, and unsold or imperfect puppies are either killed or abandoned, left to survive on their own, without a mother. Would you like to be thrown away from your mother? Left to survive on your own? Well, neither do these poor animals. Many people who buy puppies may later decide that it's too much work, or for whatever reason, and get rid of them, adding more innocent dogs to the HUGE number of abandoned pets out there. Approximately 3 to 4 million dogs and cats, all fine to adopt, have to be euthanized in animal shelters every year. About 4 million dogs are abandoned, just in the US. In UK, the number of abandoned dogs every year is estimated to be as high as 130,000, and approximately every single hour, every day a week is put to death in UK, because he/she didn’t have a home. Animals will love you, for their whole lives. So please do the same, save a life, adopt an animal from a shelter, and love your new best friend, they'll love you back.
